S.A.F.E.R. Grant

The SAFER grant (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) was awarded to the City of Fayetteville Fire Department on August 4, 2017 and accepted by the city on August 8, 2017. The purpose of this award is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. This grant has allowed our department to hire 12 firefighters allowing an increase in our staffing level by four per shift bringing the total to 15 firefighters per shift. The period of performance will start January 16, 2018.

The SAFER grant program was developed to assist local jurisdictions in funding personnel needed for an effective response and assisting with meeting the needs of NFPA 1710 requirements.  This grant has a three-year period of performance which requires a 25% local match for the first two years and a 65% local match during the last year of the period of performance.  The total federal share of this grant is $1,545,364 and the total local share is $960,632 over the three-year performance period.
