Hwy. 54 repaving update: topping has begun west of Crystal Lake, final Fayetteville milling to happen this weekend

Georgia Department of Transportation District 3 officials reported this morning that the contractor poured the topping on the inside westbound lane of Hwy. 54 last night starting at the Crystal Lake (a.k.a. Bennetts Lake) bridge. They paved just over half a mile (just before reaching the Piedmont Fayette Hospital intersection) and then had to stop due to weather concerns.

The contractor is expected, weather permitting, to pick up pouring the topping tonight where they left off, and they will continue westward.

The final milling operations, taking place in the outside westbound lane between North Jeff Davis Drive and Tiger Trail in Downtown Fayetteville, is expected to begin after 7 p.m. Friday. The contractor at that time may work around the clock until 6 a.m. Monday to get that part of the project completed. Then the contractor is expected to work nights again (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) until the topping is poured across the entire project.

Affected property owners with concerns may contact the GDOT District 3 office directly at 706-845-4115 or amccart@dot.ga.gov.
