Crews poured asphalt topping on the outside eastbound lane of Hwy. 54 Monday overnight from the Peachtree City border to a point east of Tyrone Road near the western Fayetteville border. Georgia Department of Transportation District 3 officials say they expect crews to pick up from there tonight, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., passing by Piedmont Fayette Hospital and proceeding into Fayetteville, weather permitting.
GDOT officials say they expect their contractor to have crews out nightly through Thursday night, but they do not anticipate crews working overnight Friday through Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Repaving work would then resume Tuesday overnight.
Once the main lanes of Hwy. 54 are completed, crews will pour asphalt topping on turn lanes and other areas. They will then reinstall loop timing systems at traffic-lighted intersections.
During all of this repaving, at least one through-lane will remain open, but expect traffic delays in the affected areas.
Please drive slowly and carefully past construction zones.
