Georgia Department of Transportation District 3 officials reported Monday that Hwy. 54 repaving crews had a productive weekend working around the clock from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. They poured the asphalt topping on the outside westbound lane from Downtown Fayetteville through Peachtree City to the Coweta County line and back along the outside eastbound lane to the Peachtree City city limits at the Publix shopping center.
GDOT officials say crews will return to an overnight schedule, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., tonight as they pick up from the Peachtree City border and head back to Fayetteville. The scope of this repaving project spans from the Coweta County line to a point on Hwy. 54 just east of the McDonough Road intersection, which is about a half-mile east of the Fayetteville city limits.
Once the main lanes of Hwy. 54 are completed, crews will pour asphalt topping on turn lanes and other areas. They will then reinstall loop timing systems at traffic-lighted intersections.
During all of this repaving, at least one through-lane will remain open, but expect traffic delays in the affected areas.
Please drive slowly and carefully past construction zones.
