Hwy. 54 repaving crews continued laying the asphalt topping on the inside eastbound lane Sunday overnight, and they reached the Wilbanks Drive intersection in Fayetteville, which is about a half-mile east of the North Jeff Davis Drive intersection.
According to Georgia Department of Transportation District 3 officials, crews will continue to work overnight (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) this week, weather permitting, on that inside lane until they reach the terminus of the project, which is a point just east of the McDonough Road intersection. They will then turn around and pour asphalt topping on the inside westbound lane until they reach their starting point near Piedmont Fayette Hospital. From there, crews are expected to move to the outside westbound lane and pour the asphalt topping on that lane all the way to the Peachtree City/Coweta County border.
Once the main lanes of Hwy. 54 are completed, crews will pour asphalt topping on turn lanes and other areas. They will then reinstall loop timing systems at traffic-lighted intersections.
During all of this repaving, at least one through-lane will remain open, but expect traffic delays in the affected areas.
Please drive slowly and carefully past construction zones.
