Chief Matthews joined the Fayetteville Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1994 at age 18. In January of 1995, he began his paid career with Fayetteville and worked through the ranks of the department serving as a firefighter, apparatus operator, company officer and then shift commander. As Division Chief, he manages day to day shift operations and serves as the fleet manager of the department, handling maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment as well as specification and purchasing of new vehicles and equipment as needed. He is a State of Georgia Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate and has completed training through the Georgia Public Safety Training Center as a Fire and Life Safety Educator, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Instructor II, Structural Fire Control Instructor, and Fire Department Administrator.
The City of Fayetteville Fire Department responds to intervene in various types of emergency incidents including, but not limited to: all types of fires, emergency medical calls, motor vehicle and other accidents, rescue calls, bomb threats or detonations, hazardous materials emergencies, events resulting from severe weather, and flooding emergencies.
