Update: The Dec. 1 parade has been cancelled due to severe weather forecasts

UPDATE: The Dec. 1 Fayetteville Christmas Parade has been cancelled due to severe weather forecasts.

Christmas on Main Street returns to Fayetteville on Saturday, Dec. 1, and all are welcome to join in the holiday fun.

The festivities begin at the Holliday Dorsey Fife Museum for the annual Christmas Open House, which includes free admission and light refreshments from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual Fayetteville Christmas Parade through the Historic Downtown District begins at 5, and it will be followed at the Lane Brown Gazebo by more holiday merriment, including visits with Santa, free hot cocoa and popcorn, other food items for purchase, and lots of seasonal music.

Holliday Dorsey Fife Museum representatives will offer ornaments for children to color, and Main Street Fayetteville will have a gift shop featuring Fayetteville shirts, 2018 Christmas ornaments, brand-new postcards, and more.

The evening will culminate at 7 with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which will feature the voices of Gospel Community Church and 2018 Fayette Idol Winner Emma Skaggs. Eight-year-old Caleb Yates from Joseph Sams School will flip the switch to light the tree.

The route for the parade begins again this year at the Fayette County Justice Center. The parade will move northbound on Lee Street to the Old Courthouse Square. The parade will then turn westbound along Stonewall Avenue, cross South Glynn Street (Hwy. 85) and continue to Heritage Park Way, where it will turn south toward the Fayette County Public Library. The parade will then turn east at the library to continue on Heritage Park Way to the South Glynn Street (Hwy. 85) intersection. The parade will cross South Glynn Street (Hwy. 85) to Johnson Avenue, then it will turn south onto Lee Street where it will conclude at the Fayette County Justice Center.

Christmas on Main Street is produced each year by Main Street Fayetteville staff and dozens of volunteers. For more information, contact Joyce Waits: jwaits@fayetteville-ga.gov or 770-719-4173.
